Principal for the Day

IMG_1526A.JPGYesterday there were two principals in NES. Daniel Starzynski, a fourth grader in Ms. Lee-You's class, spent the day with me as this year's Principal for the Day. Daniel began his day by greeting the children at the buses in the morning and seeing them safely into the school.  After that he did a security check of the building with Mr. Taylor, NES's security monitor, who explained what he looks for on his tour of the building.  During the morning we visited lots of classrooms and then it was on to the lunchroom where Daniel talked with some of the children and also inspected the kitchen.  The afternoon was just as busy:  We checked email, visited some more classrooms, and supervised the dismissal.  Of course, Daniel  also made an annoucement over the PA system. Asked to tell what his favorite part of the day, he said, "getting to hang out with the principal all day."  Thank you Daniel, you did a great job.

Congratulations Mrs. Kim Gaul Support Staff Member of the Year

photo.JPG Above Dr. Richard Fitzpatrick, Superintendent of Schools, and Ms. Tara Silva, Vice Principal, visit Mrs. Kim Gaul in her second grade classroom to congratulate her on her selection as NES's  2013 Support Staff Member of the Year.   Mrs. Gaul is an instructional assistant who works in several second grade classrooms (the classes of Mrs. Tina Jacobs, Mrs. Estie Goldberg, and Mrs. Michelle Marcantonio.)  Previous to this assignment she served as a one to one assistant for four years. In the nominations submitted on her behalf, Mrs. Gaul was described as enthusiastic, caring, competent, and someone who really loves her job.

We congratulate Mrs. Gaul on this award and we are proud and grateful to have her as a member of our staff.

Greetings

Hello Everyone:

I'm Carol Roche, the interim principal for NES in Mrs. Huggins' absence. Some of you might remember that I was here two years ago when Mrs. Huggins was having her first baby. I loved being here then and am delighted to be back. When asked by friends and family to describe NES, I always say "it is a happy place"; staff enjoys coming to work and children feel comfortable learning. It is also a "caring place" where everyone involved, parents, staff, and children,  respect one another and take pride in the school - an essential hallmark of an excellent school.

My tenure here will be short but in that time if I can be of assistance in anyway, please let me know.  With Ms. Silva's help, I promise to work hard to keep things running as smoothly and "happily" as ever.

Sincerely,

Carol Roche

Welcome Dr. Roche--Interim Principal

Welcome Dr. Carol Roche--Interim Principal

                                                                                                                                                April 19, 2013

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am very excited to officially announce to the parent community that my husband and I are expecting our second child towards the end of May. I have shared this great news with a number of parents in passing during arrival/dismissal of students and during the day while parents are visiting and I want to thank you for all of the well wishes and kind words.

I am also very excited to share with you that Dr. Carol Roche will serve once again as Interim Principal in my absence. If you recall Dr. Roche assisted Newell Elementary School a few years back while I was out on leave. For those parents who are new to our elementary school I would like to share with you that  Dr. Roche is an extraordinary educator who has served as a teacher, guidance counselor, elementary principal, middle school principal, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, and an interim superintendent. Dr. Roche has also been featured in a shore line publication for her outstanding contributions to the community and for modeling a lifetime dedication to her work as an educator. In addition to Dr. Roche's time, Ms. Tara Silva, Vice Principal will once again be part of Dr. Roche's team as she continues her role as Vice Principal.

This transition is scheduled to take place during the week of May 13th. Dr. Roche will begin her responsibilities on May 20th.  Please know that in order to ensure a smooth transition, Dr. Roche and I will be meeting to discuss the students, staff, and other school business. I am very confident that Dr. Roche will continue our focus on students and learning in the same manner that has been set forth thus far.

As of now, my scheduled time out of the district for my leave will begin Monday, May 20th and extend into October.  Please know that while I am out on leave, I will still be actively involved in the decision making of the school. The students, staff and parents mean far too much to me for me to be uninvolved over the next few months.

Please join us for a meet and greet session where you can meet and welcome Dr. Roche to the Upper Freehold District. This meet and greet is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 15th from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Newell Elementary School Library/Media Center.

As always, please feel free to call with any questions.

                                                                                                                                                                Sincerely,

                                                                                                                                                                Kelly Huggins

                                                                                                                                                                Principal
