SBMS - June Happenings

I hope you are enjoying the beginning days of the summer! I thought I'd recap some really fun end-of-the year events for everyone.

Graduation - For those of you who weren't able to attend graduation, it was a magical night. Student speeches, awards, chorus performances (including an original song, "Stone Bridge," that will become our alma mater) made the evening memorable. June 21, 2011 will go down as the culminating moment of our first year at SBMS! Congratulations Class of 2011! Best of luck in high school. Stay in touch! FYI - The plaque that was presented to you at graduation will be hanging in our rotunda for years to come!

Manny Sperro - Student Council President - "MC" for graduation

Erika McCormick - Valedictorian

Amanda Eider - Salutatorian

SUN Celebration - As a way to celebrate our students' efforts to Stand UNited Against Bullying. We ended the year as we began it with an event that marked our commitment to Stand UNited. A short video presentation accompanied by relevant songs ignited the student body in clapping and singing. It was one of those moments that sends chills up and down. I am so proud to have the students that we have. We are all Standing UNited! Stay tuned for 2011-2012 Kick-Off Celebration details.

Sports Awards - Our Sports Award Night celebrated our student-athletes. With two championships this year, we had a lot to celebrate. Congratulations to our wrestling and boys' soccer teams on their undefeated seasons! Also, congrats goes to every student who participated in sports and balanced their academic work successfully.

Haley Storey and Hal Shaw - Student-Athletes of the Year

Emily Rose and Kevin Primich - Athletes of the Year

School Sign - We finally have our school sign. The long awaited sign has been installed. I think you will agree that it is a terrific representation of SBMS!

Tree Planting - You may have noticed some trees that were recently planted on our campus. This was the result of an Eagle Scout project completed by one of our high school students. Thank YOU!

More Examples of Student Writing

Two more examples of excellent writing. This writing style, called "microfction," gives students the opportunity to tell a story in 300 words or less. The idea was highlighted at a professional workshop given by Nanci Atwell (writing guru) and attended by Mrs. Gleason.
