Attention Current 7th Grade Students: Information on Exploring Biotechnology

As we continue to look for ways to infuse more STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) based courses into our curricula, we will work together with Allentown High School as a means to provide our students with a wonderful opportunity. With the help of the administration and Dr. Fitzpatrick’s support, next year we are able to offer 8th grade students an opportunity to enroll in a new course, Exploring Biotechnology, which will be taught at the high school, prior to the start of the middle school day.

The major purpose of this course is to introduce students to the world of agriscience, the pathways they may pursue, and the science, mathematics, reading, and writing components they will use throughout the curriculum. Students participating in the Exploring Biotechnology course will experience exciting “hands-on” activities, projects, and problems. Student experiences will involve the study of communication, the science of agriculture, plants, animals, natural resources, and power systems. While surveying the opportunities available in agriculture and natural resources, students will learn to solve problems, conduct research, analyze data, work in teams, and take responsibility for their work, actions and learning.

If you are interested in applying for this course, please pick up an application from the main office.  Applications are due by June 9th.  Also, if you were unable to attend our information session and would like more information, please email Ms. Negro at

Opportunity to Purchase Tropical Plants

Please see the message below from parents who are planning this year’s 8th grade dance:
Hello Parents,
We will be selling beautiful tropical plants at SBMS during the DC trip drop-off (Monday 5:45am-6:15am) and pick-up (Tuesday 7:00pm-8:00pm). Purchase a majesty palm or hibiscus to be used at the dance, and take it home after the dance. You can also pick up your plants on Saturday, June 14th, from 10am-12pm, at the cafeteria entrance of SBMS.
Only $15 for a palm and $25 for a hibiscus! Please bring cash or a check made out to UFRSD when ordering your plants, this Monday or Tuesday.
Volunteers wishing to help sell plants during these times are welcomed. Please respond to this email if you are able to help.
We will also be collecting permission slips, baby pictures and donations at DC drop-off and pick-up.
Thank you!!
