Part of the scientific research process is the need for students to check the literature for evidence supporting their own research, to see what others have already done in the same field of study and to get ideas for new things that they may be considering as an extension of their original research goal.

The problem that students may face while attempting to complete original research is the inability to complete this essential phase of the research process.

How is a research paper constructed?

  • Search the internet for published papers within either a field of study relevant to your class' research topic or some simulated research goal and write a bibliography of these papers.
  • List the parts of a research paper and give their definitions.
  • Keep a list of vocabulary words and phrases that you learned while reading the professional papers.
  • Write a synopsis of one of the research papers you have found.
  • Rate the relevance of the paper you have read to your research topic
