The Legend of Lupus

Lupus: this dim constellation is bleached by the light of the Milky Way.

Greece: early stories depict the she-wolf as the lover of the god Apollo and at times that of the centaur. Pre-Olympic Arcadia saw the constellation as the representation of the wolf-king, Lycaon, who fathered fifty wolf-sons, each representing a lunar month of the year. Lycaon's cult required human sacrifices, cannibalism and other rituals beneath the full moon. This was the beginning of the werewolf cult that gained strength in Rome where it was believed that Romulus and Remus were the descendants of a she-wolf. See the Greek legend of Centaurus.
