Have your students print the rubric page so they can use it as a checklist to see that they have met all the necessary criteria for this project.

I deduct for incorrect information, lack of neatness, poor spelling or if the project is not in the form of a brochure. I also knock off 5 points for every day the project is late. Students usually have plenty of time with one week.

Many students have turned in tri-fold brochures or single page fliers. These are the ideal for this project. They are succinct and to the point. Many also design their own logos and names for their Real Estate companies. I give bonus points for this extra effort.

Others turn in the standard multipage report they've grown accustomed to writing for every project they've done since they started school, copying and pasting 1000 word essays, and handing it in for a grade. That is NOT what this project should produce. They should distill the information to the bare essentials, put material into their own words and create a project they can be proud to turn in.

Something else to consider: hit some Open Houses in your area and pick up one or two house brochures from area agents (sign your name to nothing!) Have your students take a look at these to get ideas and maybe grade them for creativity, then send them back to the Real Estate Agents anonymously.
