This webquest was written as part of a workshop that was presented during July 1999 and at a time when I was both researching a new curriculum for our school and watching way too many episodes of Investigative Reports, True Cases from the Files of the FBI and LA Detectives on A&E. The cases that are described as part of the Evidence Room section of the webquest are based on actual events. Some of my students were actually able to find the true cases on the internet and used that information in their projects.
These are the scoring sheets I currently use to grade the oral presentation, written report and powerpoint presentation. They are written in MS Word, hopefully you'll find them useful.
I use this webquest as part of my college chemistry 1 class. It gives the students a chance to learn how what we're learning about matter and energy in class can be the same cutting edge technologies used to solve crimes. They also love to hear how some poor sap got caught committing the "perfect" crime because of some miniscule piece of trace evidence they didn't even realize they had left behind.
Science rocks!
