| Bylaws
Article I, Name
- The name of the club shall be LifeSaver
Club unless changed by a majority vote and the consent of official officers
and the membership. The following are the six general goals of the club.
1) develop competent leadership in
drug prevention
2) strengthen confidence of members in
themselves and their work
3) increase knowledge of alcohol and other
drug prevention issues
4) encourage members in the development
of community/school projects
5) develop character and prepare members
for useful citizenship
6) encourage school loyalty
Article II, Purpose
Section 1
- The purpose of the club shall be to
further the goals herein stated. The following are the specific goals of
the club.
1) Students will sign and obey the
Healthy Living Contract which states that the student will not use alcohol,
tobacco or other illegal substance anytime during the present school year.
2) To try to influence other elementary
and high school students to be drug free and enjoy life using natural "highs."
This will be done by various projects during the year.
3) To network with our community drug-free
alliances MCHSTF, TIGS, and other high school students around the state,
with various projects and meetings to promote the concept of living drug-free.
Section 2
- Any budget shall be proposed by the
treasurer and advisors and submitted to the group for approval.
Article III, Membership
Section 1
- Any student at Allentown High School
shall be eligible for membership with definite specifications as listed
here.
Section 2
- To qualify for active status in the
LifeSavers Club, a student must complete all of the following requirements.
| "The purpose of this contract
is to have students make a voluntary public statement that they will not
use alcohol, tobacco or other illegal substances anytime during the
present school year. Many students at Allentown High School do not use alcohol,
tobacco or other illegal substances and this contract provides the opportunity
for them to receive acknowledgment for this behavior. The Student Assistance
Office will be meeting with various organizations in order to arrange special
events and discounts for students that sign the contract and maintain a
healthy lifestyle. A master list of all students who have signed contract
will be available at the Student Assistance Office. The consequences for violating this contract
will be a verbal discussion with the advisor, referral to Student Assistance
Coordinator and a request to recommit to the contract. Continued violations
will result in removal from the list of students committed to living a healthy
lifestyle. This contract
does not replace the existing substance use policy adopted by U.F.R.S.D.
(see student handbook for this policy), which covers the entire time a student
is in school and participating in any school sponsored events." |
Article IV, Organization
Section 1
- The LifeSaver Club shall have goals
and engage in activities consistent with Club goals set forth in Article
II.
Section 2
- The Club shall be governed by four
(4) officers elected by committee.
A. President - Duties Include:
1. Preside over meetings according
to accepted rules of parliamentary procedure.
2. Prepare the agenda for each meeting.
3. Appoint committees and serve on them
as an ex-officio member.
4. Coordinate the activities of the club
and evaluate the effectiveness of the programs.
5. Represent the club in public relations
and official functions.
B. Vice President - Duties Include:
1. Assume all duties of the president
if necessary.
2. Coordinate all committee work.
3. Work closely with the president and
advisor to assess progress. 4.
Establish and maintain a club resource file and scrapbook of memorabilia
in which to record the clubs history.
5.Maintain member attendance and activity records
6. Chair Social Committee
C. Secretary - Duties Include:
1. Prepare and present the minutes
of each club meeting.
2. Keep a record and copy of all committee
reports.
3. Be responsible for club correspondence.
4. Keep list of upcoming activities up-to-date
in showcase and other locations
5. Chair the Publicity committee.
D. Treasurer - Duties Include:
1. Receive, record and deposit club
funds and issue receipts.
2. Present treasurers report at
meetings.
3.Be present to collect funds at all events that require money collection.
4. Chair the Fund-raising committee.
Section 3
- The club shall adopt a set of by-laws
which shall include duties of the officers, meetings of the club, any other
provisions necessary for the administration of the club.
Section 4
- The club shall maintain a relationship
with the Teen Institute of the Garden State (TIGS), the Monmouth County
High School Task Force, the drug-free community alliances of Upper Freehold/Allentown,
and Millstone.
Article V, Officers
Section 1
- The Executive Board shall be selected
in May to serve for the following year and govern the membership of the
club. In order to apply for an executive position the student must have
been an active member during the year.
Section 2
- These officers shall preside
over and conduct meetings and represent the club at school functions. (Roberts

Section 3
- A majority of the Board shall constitute
a quorum of the Board.
Section 4
- The officers shall meet when called
by advisors in advance.
Section 5
- In order to hold an executive board
position, the student must attend 75% of the meetings held for the year.
Article VII, Meetings
Section 1
- After school meetings will be held
as needed. Each meeting will be presided over by the President or Delegate.
Article VIII, Committees
Section 1
- Any special committee reports, old
business from previous meeting, or new business reports will be given at
these meetings.
Section 2
- Standing or special committees shall
be appointed by the President with consent of the advisors.
Article IX
Section 1
- Roberts Rule shall govern the club.
Article X, Amendments
Section 1
- Proposed amendments to these by-laws
shall be submitted in writing by members to the President and the officers
for review with advisors and then if necessary submitted to membership.
These shall be adopted or revised by a 2/3rds vote of the members present.
